Welcome

“Dad, what would you like for Father’s Day?”

Nothing is more hurtful to a father than to realize that despite his best efforts his kids are still going hungry - that he can’t provide for their basic needs. Many unemployed fathers are desperately trying to feed families, keep kids in school, keep a roof over their heads. Through the help of relatives and friends, some manage for awhile but the unemployment checks stop and even harder choices have to be made. Do I feed my kids or fill their prescription?

Most are just not that desperate as yet but are on the verge. A large percentage of the people we help with monthly and emergency food distribution own or rent their own home. They aren’t sleeping in cars or in the woods and many have at least a part-time job. It’s just that in these economic hard times they can no longer afford the little extras and instead are having to dig down a bit harder than usual just to pay the bills.

Rising food costs is just another area of increased concern and we at Coastal Rescue Mission find that many of our clients just need a little extra bit of help to meet their monthly grocery needs. Over 60% of the needy who come to us for help with food, are looking for that extra help that will mean the difference between a family having to miss one or two meals a day.

Abundant and continuing blessings to all, in 2012!
